IN FOSTER IN WIMBORNE

This handsome hunk is Hughie.  Hughie likes to sing to you, and will tell you I Love You!  He’s a loving chap and very well mannered but he really doesnt like to be left – he wants to be where his people are, and will say so in true Frenchie style!

Hughie came to us with mobility issues.  He suffered a degree of rear end paralysis and spent an unknown length of time dragging himself around; he does have scars on his legs from old drag injuries.  His owner passed away and he came into the care of his former dog sitter, who did a lot of work on getting him onto his feet again.  Unfortunately her circumstances changed so she could no longer continue, and he came to us.

Hughie has recovered a lot of mobility; he can now get about pretty well on his four paws but he still needs care as he doesnt have his full balance yet.  He isnt incontinent, but he can sometimes miss the mark simply through not being able to make it outside in time.  He knows when he needs to go, and he really does try.  So it will be up to his owner to give him enough time and support to get to the right place.

Hughie gets on well with other dogs and could happily live with a similar sized dog although due to his mobility issues we would prefer quieter ones only.  For the same reason any children in the home will need to be older to avoid accidental injury – for example by tripping and falling on him. He isnt cat tested.

Hughie’s front end is very muscled from powering his body around, but his hind end is not fully muscled yet – he’s getting there!  He will be seeing a physiotherapist shortly to see if we can help him rebalance further.

Please think carefully before applying for Hughie – he’s a gorgeous chap and a very popular breed but its very likely that whatever affected his mobility stemmed from his spine and may flare up again in future.  You will not be able to insure him for this and specialist spinal treatment is expensive.

Hughie will not be available for adoption until he has seen his physiotherapist.  Please watch this space for updates!

PLEASE NOTE – HUGHIE IS WITH OUR SOUTHERN BRANCH AND WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS IN THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND FOR HIM.
